Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders

Effective Aug. 31, 2018, the American Psychological Association Practice Organization (APAPO) College of Professional Psychology’s Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders has fully transitioned to the NCC AP Master’s Addiction Counselor (MAC) national credential. The MAC credential is an interdisciplinary, well-respected, reimbursable, national credential that reflects the highest standards for substance use disorder and addiction professionals.

The APAPO and NAADAC cooperative agreement was established in consultation with the APA Div. 50: Society of Addiction Psychology to address a discontinuation of examination services from the College of Professional Psychology’s long-time vendor.

The transfer of the certificate of proficiency from the APAPO to the NCC AP MAC credential promises new opportunities for psychologists and reflects a commitment of the highest ethical standards for substance use disorder and addiction professionals.

Information about the NCC AP MAC credential can be found online or by phone at (703) 741-7686.
