Spreading the message about how psychologists help

APA Practice Directorate partnership with PhoneRover reaches approximately 87,000 primary care patients each month with messages about mental and behavioral health.

“If you feel overwhelmed with anxiety, visit the APA website for more information, or consider talking to a psychologist,” says an April 2016 PhoneRover message which reaches approximately 87,000 patients each month.

The APA Practice Directorate began partnering with PhoneRover in early 2015 to broadcast health and wellness programming to patients who call physicians’ offices and are placed on hold. PhoneRover’s Health On-Hold Network™ messages generated more than one million impressions in 2015.

Working with PhoneRover helps the APA Practice Directorate deliver health and wellness messages directly to the public, while also enhancing public understanding of the important role psychologists play in health care, and promoting the value of psychology within physician offices.

More than 3,000 physicians’ offices subscribe to PhoneRover’s service, which delivers messages to patients on topics related to health and well-being via office phone systems. Psychologists in the APA Practice Organization provided the expertise on mental and behavioral health to develop messages that PhoneRover then delivered to patients. Topics covered included depression, anxiety, bullying, anger and social support.

Past messages from APA, as well as other partner organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Dental Association and the American Diabetes Association are available online.
