New member benefit: ICD-10 web-based application
In anticipation of the Oct. 1, 2015, transition to the ICD-10-CM, the APA Practice Organization (APAPO), in collaboration with APA Publications, has created a web-based application available free of charge for APAPO members that will help practitioners navigate the ICD coding system. Members of APAPO* can access the application by logging in at MyAPA and going to “Practice Tools.” To ensure continued access for free next year, APAPO members will need to renew their membership.*
This new Web-based application features diagnostic codes for Chapter 5 (Mental, Behavioral, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders) of the ICD-10-CM. Users are able to access and navigate content by searching for key words, by browsing a list of diagnoses featured in the ICD-10-CM or by exploring several graphical interfaces.
The International Classification of Diseases-10th Edition is maintained by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is adapted for use in the United States (ICD-10-CM) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Practitioners should still continue using ICD-9-CM codes for billing purposes until they are replaced by the ICD-10-CM codes on Oct. 1, 2015.
