APA Practice informs CMS about practice transformation

Response could be used to develop future Requests for Proposals and test new payment and service delivery models in new value-based payment programs.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a request for information (RFI) in March about large-scale transformation of clinical practices. The APA Practice Organization (APAPO) responded to 15 of the 35 questions that related to key issues for psychologists about reimbursement, integrated health care, guidelines and electronic health records.

According to CMS, the questions in the RFI are intended to “address strategies to improve health and make quality care more affordable for individuals, families, and employers, through the development, implementation and spread of new health care delivery and value-based purchasing models.” Responses to the RFI could be used to develop future Requests for Proposals and test new payment and service delivery models in new value-based payment programs.

In addition to professional associations, clinicians, patient advocacy organizations, health plans, employers and the public were among those invited to respond.

While APA Practice contributed most material included in the response, APA’s Education Directorate provided information about what CMS should consider when spreading innovations through learning systems.
