Changes to Medicare reporting program coming in 2012

The reporting period and bonus payments have been adjusted for the PQRS program, which will become mandatory in 2015

November 17, 2011—As part of the newly-released 2012 Medicare Fee Schedule Final Rule, several changes have been made to the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) (PDF, 172KB).

Formerly the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), the PQRS program provides financial incentives for health care professionals, including psychologists, who participate in Medicare to report specific quality measures data to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). For the years 2012 through 2014, participants are eligible for a 0.5 percent bonus on all claims, not just those on which they report.

Beginning in 2015, the program will shift from voluntary to a mandatory program that penalizes non-participants.
