APA Practice Organization
The Year in Review
In 2016, the Practice Organization continued its advocacy work to promote the professional interests of psychologists across all practice settings. The advocacy addressed legislative, marketplace and legal and regulatory issues. A number of important successes included:
- Mobilizing psychologists to advocate for the bipartisan “Medicare Mental Health Access Act (HR4277/S2597)” so that psychologists can treat Medicare patients free of unnecessary physician supervision in medical settings.
- Challenging insurers who questioned psychologists use of 90837 and 90834 CPT codes
- Fielding inquiries from more than a thousand members and psychology leaders about legal, licensing, business and policy issues.
